Process

What is the first step in the design process?

It usually begins with a conversation either over the phone or at your property to discuss what your project involves. Whether it is a new home, a holiday home, alterations to your existing home. This initial step is an opportunity to meet and discuss the services Emma Lee Architecture offers and to learn about you and your ideas for your home.

What if I am not sure what I want to build?

Emma Lee Architecture can assist you with defining your brief and ascertain the opportunities your site offers. During the Design Brief & Measured Drawings stage we will discuss how you want to use the home, what your typical routines are, how you want it to look, how much you want to spend and the timeframes involved in order to design your dream home. A number of iterations of the design will be produced as part of the concept design and design development based on feedback and meetings with you, input from other consultants and investigation of the planning controls for the property.

How long will it take to complete the design & begin building?

Emma Lee Architecture follows the typical stages of service from 1. Design Brief & Measured Drawings; 2. Concept Design; 3. Design Development; 4. Development Application / Planning Permit; 5. Construction Documentation; 6. Contractor Selection; 7. Construction Certificate / Complying Development Certificate and lastly 8. Contract Administration. Please contact Emma Lee Architecture to request more information about the Stages of Service. The complexity, scale and nature of the project will influence the time it takes to begin building. This will be talked about at the initial meeting and be revisited during the different stages of the design.
